| Objectives | Polymers are presented in all sorts of shapes and sizes and application. They may be employed for transporting sour water in the form of sewage or for transporting pure water for drinking purposes. They may be used in manufacturing of cars plastic packaging systems, equipments in the house, containers, medical devices and so on. As composite materials, the polymers are an essential component in structural applications in the form of the A380 Super Jumbo Jet or the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. There are many examples which can show the importance of polymer in different science and technology and polymer engineering embraces a whole range of interest for the engineer and scientist. |
| Programme to be followed | "During this course different aspects will be developed : - properties of polymers and composites - polymers and composites in industry (bio-polymers, bio-degradable polymers...) - polymer aging (physical and chemical aging) - polymers and composites during processing (injection molding, extrusion, rotational molding...) - analytical methods (differential scanning calorimetric, infra-red spectrometry, thermo-mechanical analysis, rheometry, mechanical tests).
|
| Prerequisites | The course is, indeed, an initiation of polymer and composite engineering and science for students knowing a little about materials and the mechanics of materials. |
| Course exam | The students will present a short report on selected topics of the course at the end of programme. |
